Does your business need a TV Licence?

Business TV Licence

Do you need a Business TV Licence?

On 1st September 2016 the TV Licensing rules changed for anyone who watches live, catch-up or on demand live TV programmes using BBC iPlayer.

The rules now say that while an employee’s licence may cover then to watch catch-up or on demand TV on their own mobile device (whilst covered under their own TV licence) whilst on your premises.

So how does this affect me, as a business?

If your employee watches catch-up or on demand TV on their own mobile device and have their mobile device on charge (plugged into your mains), then the employer must have a licence covering their premises or they could face a fine.

This new rule is likely to require more businesses to require a TV licence.

If you don’t hold a TV licence for your business, make sure your employees know to charge their mobile device before or after they watch catch-up or on demand and make sure they unplug before watching. Also issue a policy to your staff that spells this out to avoid any penalty.
