From April 2016 all contractors must use the CIS online service to file their contractor monthly returns.
HMRC have introduced a number of improvements to the CIS online service to make it easier and more efficient to use.
These changes include:
- • The facility to amend returns online
- • A new online message/alert service
Some examples of the type of message/alert you may receive:
- • Monthly return inactivity confirmation
- • Period of inactivity about to end
- • Submission of a ‘nil’ monthly return during a period of inactivity
- • Have you filed your monthly return yet?
- • Subcontractor tax treatment incorrect
- • Submission where we are unable to match Subcontractor information to our records
- • Inactivity request for an inappropriate period
- • Cost of materials during a period of inactivity
- Return amendment where the number of subcontractor have changed
These messages will be sent to your HMRC CIS online account.
If you register an email address you will receive these important alert notification service such as:
- • Improved search and matching function
- • Tax treatment details shown against each subcontractor
We recommend you start to use this service if you haven’t already, because from April 2017 the online service will be the only way to verify your subcontractors.
